So, according to experts, netbooks’ 15 minutes of fame are up. Sales are down while other computer hardware’s segments are up. That what this article on CBC says. Check it out: End of the netbook?

It goes without saying that as an editor of a netbook related blog, readers will be interested for my take on such a report.

The article says that conventional laptops are killing netbooks. But these conventional laptops are as small,  as light, as cheap BUT definitely more powerful than netbooks.

I have said times and times again that people buy netbooks because they are small, light and inexpensive versions of laptops. They don’t really care about the category name but are more interested in the benefits and features of the machine over the category name.

It’s only us tech pundits who notice that people are shopping for and buying ultra-light, small notebooks over netbooks. Consumers are just getting a light , small and inexpensive computer that also happen to be powerful. It happens to be called a (really small) laptop.

PC Mag’s editors sat down and figured out 42 Reasons Why Netbooks Are Better Than the Apple iPad. Netbook Era’s should keep in mind that the iPad is actually a product name in a category called Tablet PC so in reality the PC Mag editors are comparing netbooks to tablet PCs but since the iPad is the buzz-leader of the latter category, it gets all the attention.

I read all 42 reasons and while I don’t want to spoil it for you, I have to say that for every argument there can be a counter-argument for the Apple tablet. Why don’t I let you check it out for yourself so that you can make up your own mind as to whether you agree or not?

I’ve had a theory about web-page loading speed for about three years now. When a web page takes more than 12 seconds to load, a user considers it a slow experience. Anything less than 10-12 seconds and everything is in the green zone. Smartphones are now entering the green zone.

The new ASUS Eee PC 1016P is a pretty slick looking device! According to Electronista, “the ASUS Eee PC 1016P Diary will have an aluminum chassis and shares basic specs with the Eee PC 1015P.” That means seashell styling and the newest Intel Atom processors.

Finally!

It’s been over a year when Asus showed us it but now it’s finally shipping with nice pricing in US too.. $499 is not bad for it.

You might want to put a bit more to get at least W7 home premium for it as it’s shipping with Windows 7 starter which doesn’t have all touch goodies..
